Volunteering

Night of: 03/05/2015

I have to volunteer somewhere. For work experience? To look good on my C.V? Who knows? I just know I have to do it. And of all the things I could possibly do, I'm going to volunteer to work on a bus. A bus in Aberdeen. The uni bus to be exact.

I'm sitting in a small seat behind the driver and I'm not quite sure what I'm supposed to be doing but the bus is filling up quickly with students. It must be rush hour. Everyone's getting their bus tickets checked with the driver so I find myself gazing up the bus. It's an old bus. much older that the ones Aberdeen currently uses.

The bus is full now and it's about to leave the bus stop from outside Gray's. But I'm driving now. Why am I driving? There's no time for questions because my dad and his girlfriend are sitting just behind me screaming commands at me. I don't know what they're saying but I know they're hassling me to do my job better, and do it quicker. As I turn right up the road I'm no longer anywhere in Aberdeen which I recognise. Instead I'm driving the bus through what seems like an industrial estate where most of the buildings have been knocked down. I'm lost... I'm starting to panic because I have no idea where I'm supposed to be driving the bus to and I'm still having commands screamed at me. Probably something like "turn right! no, that's not right!" or "where are you going? hit the brake!".

And all I'm thinking is "Why did I volunteer to drive a bus?"
